The cost associated with each program varies. Students who qualify for federal financial aid, student loans, and WVU scholarships may use their funds toward the cost of the program.

WVU Exchange Programs

WVU Exchange Programs allow students to study abroad for a semester or an entire school year by “swapping” places with a student from a partner university. Students continue to paying their regular tuition and fees at WVU, while housing and meals are either paid at WVU or at the host institution. Students with federal aid, student loans, and WVU Scholarships may use these funds toward the cost of a WVU Exchange Program. In addition, WV Promise Scholars may use their scholarship toward any WVU Exchange Program.

The WV-ISEP Study Abroad Consortium is collaboration between the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission and the International Student Exchange Program to provide college students from West Virginia with affordable study abroad opportunities at over 150 host institutions. WV Promise Scholars may use their scholarship toward any ISEP semester program.

Mountaineer Programs Abroad

Mountaineer Programs Abroad are study abroad opportunities developed by OIP in conjunction with WVU faculty, foreign universities and other study abroad organizations. Students who participate in Mountaineer Programs Abroad earn WVU credit while studying with fellow WVU students and other international students in classes taught by international instructors. In addition, students may also use their WV Promise Scholarship and WVU Scholarships on semester-long programs.

Affiliate Programs

Affiliate Programs are study abroad opportunities available during the semester, year, or summer through the agreements WVU has with various study abroad organizations. Students who participate on an affiliate program are accepted by the study abroad organization and they pay the study abroad organization directly. However, students who qualify for federal financial aid, student loans, and WVU Scholarships (excluding Promise) may use these funds to pay for the cost of the program.
